About the Department

The Department of Information Technology was started in the year 2001 and offers B.Tech, M.tech and PhD programs. In this era of digital world, the IT department offers an excellent atmosphere for students to learn and acquire the necessary skills as demanded by the industry.

The department is enriched with experienced faculty members, well equipped laboratories, department library and R&D facilities. Students and faculty members are a part of professional societies like IEEE, IETE, CSI, CISCO etc., in order to gain contemporary knowledge about the happenings in the industry. The Department has established strong links with industrial and academic experts, both within and outside the country. Besides high quality teaching, various webinars, FDPs, conferences, symposiums and workshops are organized frequently both in the national and international level.

Our department faculty members have a remarkable number of publications. Our enthusiastic students take up several real time projects each year. Also, the aspiring students are given international opportunities through student exchange programs, internships and summer training programs. Students those who graduated in our department are placed as system developers, architects, technical leaders and managers in many multi-national companies. Above all, the department of Information Technology strives for continuous improvement and setting a good example in the effective use of technology.

PO1 Engineering Knowledge: Apply the Knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2 Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering Problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

PO3 Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental consideration.

PO4 Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5 Modern tool usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6 The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to access societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7 Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate the knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

PO8 Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9 Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

PO10 Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

  • PSO1 : Ability to augment the understanding of broad themes of STEM using Information Technology.

Welcome to the department of Information technology at Dr.M.G.R.Educational & Research Institute, Chennai. In this era of digital world, the IT department offers an excellent atmosphere for students to learn and acquire the necessary skills as demanded by the industry in a state of the art facility and highly qualified faculty. The department works with the objective of addressing critical challenges faced by the Industry, society and the academia.

Perhaps our department is enriched with experienced faculty members, well equipped laboratories, department library and R&D facilities, for helping our students to learn, grow, develop, and achieve their goals in their professional career. Students and faculty members are a part of professional societies like IEEE, IETE, CSI, CISCO etc., in order to gain contemporary knowledge about the happenings in the industry.

Department of Information Technology is one of the largest departments in Dr.M.G.R.Educational & Research Institute With nearly 15 faculty members and 350 undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. The department’s graduate programs continue to draw from a very strong application pool. The Information Technology department was established in the year 2001. The department offers undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes in the key areas of Information Technology.
